How Mold Remediation Works
Not only does mold have the potential to cause significant damage to your home, it can also prove to be a health hazard for you and your family. Unfortunately, all homes contain mold since microscopic spores can be found just about everywhere both indoors and outdoors. These spores exist in the air and can easily invade your home through doors, windows, heating/air conditioning units and other openings. In fact, mold can even enter your home on a pet and even on your clothing.
Very small amounts of mold is typically fine for most homes and is easily kept in check, the problem is when mold starts to grow out of control and is left unnoticed and untreated for long periods of time. A small water leak inside the wall of your home or a recent flood in your basement is all that is needed to start the spread of mold in the home.
Mold Growth In The Home
Mold can quickly grow when it’s exposed to moisture, humidity and/or water, therefore it’s important that your home is as dry as can be. This means one of the main procedures in mold remediation is to remove or repair all water/moisture leaks in the building. However, all mold situations are unique so the exact solution may differ from home to home even though the basic process of remediation remains the same.
At Restoration Mate our team of professional mold technicians will thoroughly inspect and test your home and property for mold as well as any water leaks and sources. If mold is detected it then needs to be contained to stop it from spreading. This includes turning off cooling and heating systems. By using special filtration equipment and HEPA vacuums we can capture small mold spores from the air.
The Mold Remediation Process
The remediation process will depend on how much mold is present and where exactly it is found. Colonies of mold can be eliminated with antimicrobial and anti-fungal treatments and these also help stop the formation of any new colonies. In some cases, carpeting, sub floors and drywall may need to be disposed off if they are infested with mold.
Our trained mold professionals will be able to clean the mold, remove odours and restore as many items as possible such as furniture, curtains, decorations, and personal belongings etc by cleaning and sanitizing them. The items will then be dried with the use of high-powered fans and dehumidifiers. If needed, drywall and new carpeting may need to be installed and various areas of the home may require reconstruction.
Since mold can quickly and easily spread it’s important that the problem be taken care of as quickly as possible. You should also be aware that mold may also be invisible to the naked eye in some instances as it can grow behind walls and underneath carpeting etc. This means it may not be restricted to just one area of the dwelling. Again, this is due to moisture or water problems.
Mold remediation always involves cleaning the mold and preventing its return. This means the moisture problem needs to be identified and rectified and the contaminated areas have to be isolated. Doorways, windows and other openings should also be covered to keep the mold spores at bay and all contaminated articles in the home should be removed.
The clean up is thorough and immediate and when the remediation process has been completed we will verify the mold has all been removed.
